Bayern Munich's hopes of winning the Club World Cup have been dashed as they were eliminated from the tournament by Brazilian side Flamengo.
The German champions, who had previously won the competition in 2019, went into the final round of matches with their destiny in their own hands after beating Saudi Arabia and Japan in the previous rounds.
However, their dream came to an end on Saturday night as they were beaten 2-0 by Flamengo, who also reached the final after defeating Santos.
Flamengo's victory was a major upset as they had not played in a competitive match for over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the loss, Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann praised his team's performance and said that it was a great experience for them to compete at such a high level.
"The Club World Cup is a fantastic competition and we were very proud to be part of it,Serie A Stadium" he said. "We fought hard and gave our best throughout the tournament, but unfortunately we couldn't get past the last stage."
Despite the disappointment, Bayern Munich will still be remembered for their impressive performances during the tournament, which included beating some of the world's top teams.
The club has already announced that they will continue to strive for success in future competitions, and they will undoubtedly be looking ahead to next year's Copa Libertadores, where they hope to defend their title.
